Apache Junction ,AZ -- March 10th to 12th
March 10th
We drove around the Apache Trail -- the stage coach and freight wagon route through the Superstition Mountains. We stopped at Canyon Lake and saw the Dolly Steamboat. We had lunch at the Superstition Saloon at Tortilla Flats--a whistle stop with saddles for seats and dollar bills on every wall. The roads were winding and some were dirt roads--breathtaking views of canyons, desert lakes, towering saguaro cacti and desert flowers. Very hot 28 Deg. C.
March 11th----Happy Birthday John
Ralph got a haircut while I cleaned. We relaxed and read in the sunshine. Eight of us celebrated John's birthday by going to Barleen's Arizona Opry for a beautiful roast beef dinner and a musical variety and comedy show(Barleen twins and family). Great entertainment and dinner for $28.00 each.
March 12th
We toured around Goldfield Ghost Town--1890's gold mining town situated at the base of the Superstition Mountains. We took the train ride around the town and went on the gold mine tour. We browsed around the saloon, brothel, general store etc. We had lunch at Filly's Bar and Grill where cowboys can hitch their horse in the back. We drove to Mesa and visited with Doug and Karen Stoltz (former co-worker of mine) at Good Life Resort. In Fountain Hills we saw one of the highest fountains in the world(over 560 feet spray in the middle of the lake).Another hot day--mid eighties.
